Christina Sanchez Juarez- Visual Arts Instructor

Christina is an interdisciplinary artist and the co-founder of Cocina Abierta, a nomadic experimental “test kitchen” run by a collective of Los Angeles based artists and restaurant workers. The collective operates in the public sphere, collaborating with home cooks to facilitate opportunities for people to become food innovators and community storytellers. They organize food based communal gatherings, as well as dialogues around the topics of cooking, food history, and restaurant labor. Cocina Abierta seeks to harness the power of restaurant workers, home cooks, and food lovers to contribute to building a just food system that puts the health and well being of our communities first.

In addition to her community engaged art practice, Christina is also a teaching artist with over ten years of experience working in various educational settings. She has taught Visual Arts at Park Century School in Culver City for the past 3 year. Prior to working at Park Century School she worked at a small independent school in Oakland, California for 8 years where she organized the school’s first art program from the ground up. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from San Francisco State University and a Master of Fine Arts in Public Practice from the OTIS College of Art and Design.
