Helen Hartung is a landscape designer, specializing in sustainable practices for residential applications. After earning professional certification in Horticulture through UCLA, she worked for the firm of landscape architect Patricia Benner before opening her own firm, Helen Hartung Gardens.
Previously, Helen had worked as a journalist and writer. She co-authored three cookbooks and covered the fields of design, food, travel and the television industry for such publications as Los Angeles Magazine, TV Guide, Redbook, and Ladies Home Journal, among others. It was originally her research into environmental and sustainability issues that led her to pursue a second career in horticulture and landscaping. Helen received her BA degree from Vassar College and an MA in English from Columbia University.
Helen is married to Ray Hartung, a television writer and producer. They have three children, the youngest of whom, Kipp, attended Park Century for seven years, where he gained invaluable skills for navigating life with his learning issues. He recently graduated from Whittier College.
